Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides supportive patient care functions for Mohs Surgery Department in the clinic Surgical Area
  • Provides supportive patient care functions under the supervision of a Mohs Surgeon, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Vocational Nurse, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards
  • Some duties may be delegated to the Sr. Mohs Surgery Technician by the Surgeon
  • This position requires additional duties which include administration of injectables and or other high-level skill performance
  • The Mohs Surgery Technician requires additional duties which include demonstrating knowledge and scribing of medical terminology to assist in documentation during surgical office procedures
  • May be asked to administer injectables and/or other high level skill performance: Set-up/assist with procedures, sterile field, cosmetic procedures, removal of sutures, sterilize instruments, and manage pathology log to make sure all results received and given to patients and treatments done

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited program and Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant program or school
  • Certified or Registered as a Medical Assistant, or Surgical Technician
  • BLS Certification
  • Complete department-specific program modules for medical assistants
  • 4+ years of directly related experience as a KSC Mohs Surgery Technician, Certified or Registered as a medical assistant OR 4+ years of related surgical assistant experience
  • Proven to complete the review/skill validation program within 90 days of hire into this role
  • Proven ability to use equipment and related supplies for selected patient population
  • Proven windows-based computer skills
  • Proven basic Medical & Nursing terminology

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Mohs or Dermatology clinic or related department
  • Ambulatory Care experience
  • EPIC experience

Essential Duties:  

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill needed to provide safe and effective care to facilitate the Mohs Surgical Department provider’s practices which includes:
    • Assists surgeon in outpatient office-based surgery
    • Assists Mohs surgeon throughout procedure with instruments and providing hands on assistance according to prescribed standards
    • Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site
    • Injection of Lidocaine for local anesthesia in superficial areas
    • Surgical site scrub
    • Vital signs
    • Preparation and procedural set up for dry dressings
    • Sterile fields setup for MOHS procedure
    • Suture removal up to 10 cm
    • Documentation of all medications and procedures
    • Knows how to access the designated resource MD or RN
    • Seeks clarification or guidance with questions related to medication administration from licensed staff
    • Transport patients within facility as needed
    • Perform CPR as needed and assist during times of emergency
  • Patient/ Surgical and Cosmetic Care
    • Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon
    • Assists with Cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, Chemical Peels, etc.
    • Able to assist with Laser skin procedures
    • Compiles and prepares surgical packs.
    • Runs autoclave as needed Document observations related to health status and report findings
    • During Surgical/Cosmetic procedure takes photos of surgical stages or cosmetic before and after photos for Epic System- Haiku Application
  • Scribe
    • The Scribe works to facilitate patient flow through ambulatory clinics and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient
    • In accordance with policy, prepares and assembles medical record documentation/chart for physician prior to and during patient visit. Ensures all documentation is accurate and timely
    • The Scribe assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the surgical procedure
  • Clerical
    • Review doctor’s schedule, abstract as needed, print PVS for each patient and request other relevant information needed for patient’s visit that day
    • Prepares and submits patient documents for scanning
    • Monitor assigned in basket and complete work as needed-Overdue Results/Letters
    • Schedule appointments and assist patients with specialty referrals and radiology testing
    • Provide pre-printed patient educational material as directed by provider
    • Proper disposal of confidential patient information -daily
    • Follows HIPAA policy and procedures regarding patient confidentiality
  • *Department Maintenance
    • Monitor supplies, medications and forms and notifies appropriate staff when reorder needed
    • Remove and tag broken equipment and notifies coordinator, supervisor, or manager
    • Cleans exam rooms daily and documents on log
    • Monitors supplies for expiration date and restock to par levels
    • Perform sterilization of instruments, creating Mohs trays and instrument packs and complete logs (assignment based on completion of sterilization class and delegation by appropriate nursing staff)
    • Attends staff meetings
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area with a minimum of personal items
  • QA-Regulatory
    • Complete daily logs as assigned by nursing staff
    • Refrigerator and room temperature logs  
    • Other QA logs
    • Performs accurate, legal, & ethical documentation
    • Maintain patient confidentiality
    • Practice OSHA safety standards with proper disposal of biohazard waste
    • Uses frequent hand washing or hand sanitizer (up to ten times before have to wash hands with soap and water unless hands visibly soiled) to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting
    • Uses gloves and PPE as needed
    • Uses aseptic or sterile technique as needed
    • Verify equipment has a current PM label before use
    • Identifies and reports potential barriers for the safe provision of patient care and maintains a safe patient environment
  • Customer Service
    • Works with patients to achieve excellent customer service and high levels of satisfaction
    • Practices mutual respect among all members of the healthcare team
    • Works with other staff to promote an efficient and effective healthcare team

    • Meets both Clinic and individual Customer Service goals and standards by maintaining 90% or greater of excellence in customer service
    • Telephone Etiquette
    • Answer and direct incoming calls to appropriate staff using a caring non-rushed tone
    • Identify clinic, department, name, and job title in health care team
    • Ensure accurate information is obtained and communicated to licensed team members
    • Report and provide documentation of all complaints to coordinator, supervisor, manager, or Clinic Administrator
    • Utilize warm transfer process when redirecting patient to ensure needs are met
  • Financial
    • Demonstrates prudent use of resources. Minimizes wasteful actions
    • Assists with maintaining equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendation
    • Reports to coordinator, supervisor, manager, or clinic administrator the need for over-time and obtains approval
  • Quality Improvement
    • Contributes and participates in the department and clinic process improvement plans
    • Supports initiatives related to meeting AAAHC and other accrediting standards
    • Follows all safety standards for patients, employees, and visitors

 

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $20.00 to $35.72 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
