Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and ensure adherence to best practices and architectural standards
- Drive technical decision-making processes, evaluating trade-offs and selecting appropriate technologies
- Architect, design, and develop complex, enterprise-scale applications using Java (Spring Boot, microservices), React, and/or Angular
- Design and implement cloud-native solutions on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), leveraging services like Kubernetes, serverless functions, and managed databases
- Define and enforce architectural patterns, standards, and best practices for full-stack development
- Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and performant
- Engage in hands-on development for critical components and proof-of-concepts
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC) from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance
- Champion DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code
- Collaborate closely with product managers, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Partner with other architects and technical leaders to ensure alignment with broader enterprise architecture strategies
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices, evaluating their potential impact and application within Optum
- Drive innovation by prototyping new solutions and advocating for the adoption of modern technologies and methodologies
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do so
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 12+ years of professional software development experience
- 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership or software architecture role
- Significant hands-on experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React AND/OR Angular, along with HTML5, CSS3, and TypeScript
- Demonstrable experience designing, building, and deploying applications on at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Solid understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven design patterns
- Proven deep expertise in Java and related frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Hibernate)
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Proven excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Proven solid communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities
