As an Accounting Consultant within our Regulatory Finance – Accounting and Reporting division, your role will include the following.
For all Minneapolis and Washington DC hires, you will be required to be in office 4 days a week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting and Accounting
- prepare and review of multiple, complex quarterly and annual financial statements, including the balance sheets, income statements,
- changes in capital and surplus, statements of cash flow and supplemental financial exhibits, pursuant to Statutory Accounting Principles, which are based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- prepare the annual audited financial statements and documentation in support of external and internal audits
- prepare supplements to statutory filings, and other state supplemental filings
- Financial Analysis
- prepare and analyze business and financial metrics, on a forecasted and reported basis throughout the year by working closely with the internal stakeholders
- prepare and analyze premium deficiency reserve evaluation models for assigned legal entities
- Additional responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to:
- participate and lead on a project team to develop innovative approaches in department process, projects, and initiatives for continued
- improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
- respond to regulator inquiries and support Department of Insurance examinations
- review the work of others and monitor compliance with key controls and standard accounting and reporting practices and procedures
- solve complex problems and conduct complex analyses, including non-standard requests; and perform work in a self-directed manner
serve as a leader and mentor

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent
- 2+ years of accounting and/or finance experience
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Demonstrate the ability to plan upcoming work while also prioritizing and organizing current workload to meet multiple hard deadlines
- Demonstrate the technical and functional skills necessary to prepare, review and analyze financial statements
- Demonstrate solid analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Health care experience
- Public accounting experience
- Financial statement preparation and/or audit experience
- Financial planning and analysis experience
- Experience with Hyperion Essbase and PeopleSoft Financials
- Accounting experience handling regulated entities
- Anticipates customer needs and proactively develops solutions to meet them

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $71,200 to $127,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
