Lead a team of 6-9 engineers in designing, developing, and deploying scalable cloud-native applications using AWS and modern Java frameworks. Drive architectural decisions, ensure code quality, and foster a culture of automation and innovation across the software development lifecycle.

 

This role supports the Dispensing Central suite of applications, which are vendor-developed and critical to backend pharmacy operations across OptumRx sites. The Sr Manager will oversee integration, security, performance, and cloud migration efforts for these systems.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement cloud-native solutions on AWS
  • Lead development of backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices
  • Guide teams in using SQL and NoSQL databases effectively
  • Champion event-driven architecture using Kafka or similar technologies
  • Oversee containerized deployments using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Ensure secure, maintainable code aligned with Agile and DevOps best practices
  • Drive instrumentation and diagnostics for operational excellence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technology with business needs
  • Mentor engineers and promote continuous learning and innovation
  • Lead on prem to AWS cloud migrations for three vendor developed applications
  • Use GitHub Copilot, PR Code Review tools and other AI toolset
  • Manage team of 6 to 9 resources

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of hands-on development experience in Java
  • Experience with databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, COSMOS DB, SQL Server, Oracle, NoSQL
  • Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and microservices architecture
  • Proven experience with AWS cloud services and serverless design
  • Solid knowledge of RESTful APIs, Swagger/OpenAPI

     

  • Familiarity with Git, IntelliJ/Eclipse, Maven/Gradle
  • DevOps tools: GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Helm
  • Agile/Scrum team leadership experience
  • Solid understanding of security standards and compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA)
