As the Pre-Anesthesia Testing (PAT) Nurse, you will be responsible for ensuring patients are optimally prepared for surgical procedures by conducting comprehensive assessments, coordinating preoperative testing, and collaborating closely with anesthesia, surgical team, and physician offices. This role is critical to patient safety, surgical efficiency, and high quality surgical care. You will be providing patient education, answering questions and concerns, and ensuring a safe patient experience. As the PAT Nurse, you must possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking abilities.   

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assesses patient physical and emotional status including medical history, medication review, allergies, and prior anesthesia concerns
  • Serve as the primary contact for patients prior to surgery, provides education on the surgical process, preoperative instructions, and answering patient and caregiver questions
  • Ability to assess patients by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities
  • Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require the information including, surgeons, anesthesia, management, and other staff
  • Initiates and participates in patient and family education. Assesses learning needs according to patient’s level of understanding and readiness to learn
  • Displays an understanding of each patient’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care
  • Conducts pre- and post-op phone calls and communicates any problems to the appropriate person
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for confidentiality, Infection Control, Safety (OSHA), Attendance, Personal Electronic Equipment, Punctuality and Personal Appearance
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities including identification of opportunities for cost reductions and efficiencies

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing
  • Current unencumbered State of Oregon license as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire
  • 3+ years of experience in a Surgery Center or hospital Surgery Department
  • Complete knowledge and understanding of pre-Anesthesia nursing care in the freestanding ambulatory surgery center
  • Evidence of working knowledge of the nursing process

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage emergency situations in a calm and confident manner
  • Demonstrated flexibility and leadership with unscheduled procedure changes
  • Organize, prioritize, delegate, and assign duties to non-licensed personnel
  • Demonstrated ability maintain skills in equipment usage and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality of work
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with providers, clinical staff, and patients

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $28.27 to $50.48 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
