How do you use technology in the work you do?
As a software engineering director with Optum in Bangalore, I’ve been working with the team that’s digitally transforming the Optum Rx portal. We’re focused on enhancing our software capabilities to provide our customers with faster and better experiences on our digital platforms. As one example, the software we’re working on helps customers get their prescriptions refilled, renewed and delivered more easily than ever before.
When you’re working on these tech solutions, what factors do you prioritize?
We’re always thinking about things like scalability and reliability, elements that really impact the customer experience. We’re mindful about keeping the customer at the center of everything we develop. With that as our focus, we choose the relevant tools and technologies that will help us develop solutions that meet the needs of our diverse user groups. Health care is complex, and we know that through technology, we can make it simpler and better for customers.
What do you see as an emerging area of interest in health care technology?
One of our objectives at Optum that I care a lot about personally is our focus on going paperless. The entire health care system – patients, doctors, hospitals, manufacturers, suppliers – everything is going digital. The past few years have taught us that we need faster dissemination of information and a more accurate medical supply chain. As we continue to go paperless, not only will we be having a positive impact on the environment, but we’ll be using technology to achieve our mission of helping the health care system work better for everyone.
